IADL 80th Anniversary
International Conference
Havana, Cuba | 21–24 October 2026
The International Association of Democratic Lawyers (IADL), together with the National Union of Jurists of Cuba (UNJC), is pleased to announce the international conference marking the 80th anniversary of the IADL, to be held in Havana, Cuba, from 21 to 24 October 2026.
Founded in 1946 in the aftermath of the Second World War and the defeat of fascism, the IADL has for eight decades brought together democratic lawyers committed to the defence of peace, international law, the sovereignty and self-determination of peoples, fundamental rights, social justice and international solidarity.
The 80th anniversary will be an opportunity not only to honour this history, but also to reflect collectively on the profound political, legal and international challenges of our time and on the role that democratic lawyers must continue to play in confronting fascism, imperialism, colonialism, racism, war, political repression and other contemporary forms of domination.
The Havana Conference will bring together IADL members and partners, lawyers, academics, social movements, international experts and other actors committed to the defence of international law and global justice. Through plenary discussions, thematic exchanges, organizational meetings and encounters with Cuban institutions and society, it will seek to connect the historic struggles of the IADL with the challenges of the present and to contribute to defining common priorities and lines of action for the years ahead.
The Conference will also provide an important occasion to reaffirm international solidarity with Cuba and the right of the Cuban people to sovereignty and self-determination.
We invite IADL members, partners and friends around the world to save the date and begin preparing for Havana.
Further information on the programme, registration, travel and practical arrangements will be circulated shortly.
